Exploring Phases of Emigration

The series, Exploring Phases of Emigration Through Photographic Narrative Tableaux, combines performative aesthetics to create an engaging visual narrative. This body of work delves into an exploration of South African womxn and their choices regarding emigration.

The project consists of four distinct phases and employs two approaches to offer deeper insights into the personal experiences of these womxn. These experiences encompass those who choose to emigrate, those who have already migrated, and those who have emigrated and returned.
The Acclimatisation is a participant-led experimental short film. In this film, womxn who have already migrated have taken videos of their current living environments. This visual representation articulates the theories of Anthony Giddens and Stuart Hall on 'self-identity as a project.'
